Mr. Lincoln's War - - - printer-friendly version
October 1 1862
Dear Wife
...myself and the rest of the boys are all well and in good spirits, they
could not otherwise be as we have had a verry pleasant ride thus far, but
in moments of relaxation from conversation or other amusements a shade of
sadness could be seen over shadowing the countenance a sure indication that
the thoughts of home and loved ones wer crowding on the mind to be banished
onely by new scenes constantly attracting our attention and exciting admiration...
Yours in haste
J. C. Griswold
