    History Detectives are the Fenton's young historians for grades 4-7. The students will meet 10 times a year to discover Jamestown's past stories, people and places. Cost $8/month or $60 for the year. Last Saturday of the month Jan.-July, Sept. - Nov. from 1-3 PM at the Fenton History Center.
  • April 11

    NEW! Brown Bag Lecture Series
    Noon to 1 PM. Come hear about an important part of Jamestown's history during the lunch hour. Donations encouraged, Meets the 2nd Wednesday of the month April through October, at the Fenton Mansion until further notice.
  • May 19 - September 29

    "From Stage to Talkies; Theaters in Jamestown"
    Vaudeville, touring companies, talent shows, silent films and talkies - all are part of Jamestown's long history in entertainment. The exhibit features images, stories, playbills and more about the over 20 theaters in Jamestown's past.

Fenton Institute 2011

The Fenton Institute offers a series of workshops for the curious adult learner.

The workshops are open to all who are interested in local history and saving the past. The workshops will provide the needed information and tools to explore your family histories, to learn how to preserve your treasured mementos and to learn more about our local history.

Caring for Your Heritage Furniture
Saturday, January 22 - 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon
Fenton History Center


The proper usage, display and storage of heritage furniture will go a long way in keeping the piece around for generations to enjoy. The combination of heritage furniture's complex construction and the piece's functions(s) make proper care essential.



Cost: $15 for non-members
$10 for members
Free elective for certain level memberships

Session II
Our Local History: The Railroad and Jamestown
Wednesday, March 30 - 7 PM
Robert H. Jackson Center Auditorium

The arrival of the train in 1860 did more for the economy of Jamestown than any other single event in our 200 year history. Greg Rabb, JCC associate professor of political science will present and lead a discussion of the history of the railroad in Jamestown.

Saturday, June 4 - 1-4 PM
Meet at the Fenton History Center parking lot

Explore the beauty and majesty of eras gone by in the old north side, what is our greater downtown now. Also learn about the early businesses and people who thrived there.

Session IV
Genealogy 101: Getting Started
Monday, September 12 - 6:00-8:00 PM
Fenton History Center

Genealogy is more then just names on a family tree, it's people's lives and stories. This session will acquaint new researchers with proper techniques, documentation and other tools they will need to begin their quest.
