"Samplers of Western New York"

The Chautauqua Region Textile Study Group invites you to our Spring meeting "Samplers of Western New York" which will be Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Fenton History Center at 67 Washington Street, Jamestown, New York at 1:30 pm.

Wilma Townsend, Curator at the Ontario County Historical Society in Canandaigua, New York will be our speaker. In 2006-2007 she curated an exhibit entitled "Samplers of Western New York". Wilma has been a museum curator for over twenty years at various institutions including the Landmark Society of Western New York, Granger Homestead, and Sonnenberg Gardens. She considers herself a generalist, with a great interest in textiles and needlework. She received her Master's Degree in History with a Certificate in Museum Studies from the University of Delaware. Wilma resides in Victor, NY with her husband, teenage daughter and son and three cats.

We have re-scheduled this presentation, which was originally going to be held at our fall meeting. Due to unfortunate circumstances, the speaker was unable to appear, so we are scheduling it for May 10. Because of this, those who attended in the fall and paid the fee for the meeting and lunch will be admitted to this meeting free of charge. For all the new members there will be a charge of $10.00 to help cover expenses.

We encourage those in attendance to bring all their friends who are interested in textiles and needlework, and also to bring 'show and tell' items for our pleasure and education.

We will be planning our fall meeting, for which we have some ideas, and possibly for a field trip to the Alling Coverlet Museum in Palmyra, NY.

Please RSVP to the Fenton History Center at 716-664-6256, fax 716-483-7524 or email information@fentonhistorycenter.org

We hope to see you there!!
